Continuity Exercise Evaluation

I'm going to evaluate the short sequence that we planned, filmed and edited in class ours we planned for 2 lessons filmed in 1 and edited in 1 and a half so in total we planned for 2 hours, filmed for 1 hour and it took us 1 hour to edit the video is below and the evaluation is below that. so I hope you enjoy.

I'm going to review the following things in this video:

Continuity: we used a fade to red cut in this to signify death. we also used a wipe transition of one persons eye to another we used this to add suspense and to show we could put transitions not knowing the fade to red was a transition. we divided by the 180 degree rule where the camera is only suppose to stay on a 180 degree axis and are not suppose to cross this line as it may confuse the audience watching the sequence. everyone liked the fade to red but where not sure about the other transition and why it was there.

Camera work: in one of the scenes the camera was jolting around but the next scene it was still because we had decided to use the tripod because my arm was shaking so much. this balanced it out and from then on we used the tripod. in one scene where we filmed above I had to hold the camera aloft on the tripod that is why  there was a few shakes. nobody picked up on the camera not being still and that we didn't go over the 180 line.

Mise en scene: in one of the scenes you can see the man gulp down this can show he is anxious to receive the and to see what is inside. the woman smirks as she knows what is inside and what is coming this can show she is a very cold and calculative person. we didn't use any additional lighting but it could of helped because in one shot you struggled to see the mans face. we had very good actors who could maintain focus and keep to the task. everyone complimented the acting but spotted where the person feel against the wall before falling after being stabbed.

sound: in ours we didn't want to use sound but had to, because we had to prove that we could put sound in by our teacher. That is why the footstep are out of sync as they are a default that are on the Mac's. If given more time we would of gone out and recorded our own footsteps and crumpling of paper because there were no sounds so it looks like the woman is smirking for no reason but she is actually smirking because she knows what is coming and because she is about to kill him. everyone noticed how bad the footprints where but complimented that no sound added to the suspense of the sequence but would of been better with static noise rather than a soundtrack.
