A media brief is a set job given out by a client and given certain guidelines to do that is set by the client and you have to work to it.To be asked to produce something in media context it is to be asked to make an advert, programme etc. for someone and to be paid to do it under there guidelines. It also means you are doing a job for someone and they will be called the Commissioner. It means that the client is advertising it and it is open to all agencies and people who are willing to do it and they (the client) will choose the best one. Some briefs can be for competitions and you can choose to do it and if you win you will get the money from the competition maker and they will use your entry for its purpose.
Reading a brief
You have to make sure you stick to the guidelines set by the Commissioner. If you don't do this you can possibly get fired and they can go find someone else this can ruin your reputation and people will unlikely to work with you and choose you to work for them. You have to make sure you stick to the guidelines set by the Commissioner. Ours was to make a 10 second short. We had to use an E4 soundtrack that had been supplied for us. We had to make it stop motion animation (set by our teacher.)
Negotiating a brief
http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/apr/14/michelle-maclaren-quits-wonder-woman-movie-creative-differences as they both had creative differences and different interpretations of what the superhero should look and be presented as. We weren't allowed to use music off YouTube it had to be supplied to us by E4 same with the logo as we had been given permission to use it. We weren't allowed to slander off any gender or race etc... which we didn't and we weren't going to. We weren't allowed to show off anything with gore or anything rude in.We went outside and filmed as we didn't have a cat to get out of a tree so we changed it to saving an old lady from getting hit by a car and filmed on a road at the back of college. If the client wants more things added to it they will pay you to keep the equipment and pay the people in the thing so they stay around if not you can refuse to continue to work for them.
Opportunities
To get experience and get there name out there so more people will come to them so that they can get more work. They also do it for the money. They can also find out what they are weak on and improve on it by continuously working on it. I learnt how to use a greenscreen and how to put an image onto it. I also learnt how to put a logo onto a shirt via printing.
- found soundtrack- so I listened to each available sound clip and picked the one that I thought went well with our clip.
- acted in it- I played the part of E4 man.
- took photos- did the recces and for the green screen.
- did story boards- for the pre-production.
- booked rooms- so we could use the green screen.
